On October 22, 2005, Eric presented his idea to make a movie during the family reunion planned for July 2006. Some family members responded with enthusiasm, others with skepticism. Emily sent an instant message to Eric volunteering to write the script, and their conversation blossomed into a brainstorming session involving more than half the family. Emily's first draft soon followed.

The next several months were spent tweaking and fine-tuning the script, as well as assigning jobs and roles to all the members of the family. There was a second online discussion on January 7, 2006, which resulted in a pre-production schedule through mid-March.

In March, Eric posted a new production schedule leading up to the planned filming in July. Shortly thereafter, Jared decided not to write music for the movie, and suggested cancelling the project. Trina, Emily, and Mom argued heavily in the movie's defense.

May and June saw some of the individual scenes filmed, and most of the movie's opening sequence was completed well ahead of schedule, including location shots in Lafayette and Washington DC.

During the week of July 8-15, the rest of the movie was filmed, and was edited into a somewhat-presentable format. This product was shown at the Beers Family Reunion on Fox Island, Washington.

After the reunions, Eric took all the footage that had been produced thus far and retreated to California to touch up and re-edit the movie.
